Dr. Rothschild provides individual therapy, family sessions, and parent/caregiver training for children (ages 6+), teens, and young adults. Dr. Rothschild works collaboratively with a child's entire support team including caregivers, families, school staff, and other professionals, and spends time outside of therapy sessions consulting with team members, responding to messages from families, and creating visual resources for families.
Parents/caregivers learn about various topics (e.g., neurodiversity, mental health diagnoses, attachment based parenting approaches, neuroscience and the brain-body connection) and learn skills and strategies to respond effectively to their child's behavior and anxiety in a way that fosters and repairs their relationship with their child while meeting their child's needs.
CBT recognizes that one's thoughts or cognitions can impact their behavior. CBT focuses on changing problematic thought patterns, learning coping skills and problem-solving skills, and facing fears in order to improve how one feels. CBT is an evidence based therapy that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including anxiety and depression.
ERP is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy that is used by mental health professionals for treating OCD. It involves practicing facing the thoughts, images, objects, and situations that make a person anxious while making a choice not to engage in a compulsive behavior. ERP has been shown to lead to a reduction in OCD symptoms and improved quality of life.
Mindfulness training utilizes a variety of techniques and practices to help an individual focus on the present moment and be fully aware of their experiences (both internal states and external surroundings). Practices may involve breathing techniques, guided imagery, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation. Mindfulness-based therapy has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including anxiety and depression.
Dr. Rothschild strives to utilize neurodiversity-affirming practices in her work with clients, which involves the acceptance and celebration of neurodivergence (e.g., autism, ADHD, learning differences) rather than seeing these differences as deficits that need to be fixed. Neurodiversity-affirming practices focus on the strengths of the individual while working to adapt environments to support and meet their unique needs.
