Therapy and Counseling

Dr. Rothschild provides individual child therapy, family sessions, and parent/caregiver training for children from ages 2 to 16. Dr. Rothschild works collaboratively with a child's entire support team including caregivers, families, school staff, and other professionals.

Therapeutic Modalities

Parent/Caregiver Training and Psychoeducation: Parents/caregivers learn about various topics (e.g., neurodiversity, mental health diagnoses, parenting approaches) and learn skills and strategies to respond effectively to their child's behavior in a way that fosters and repairs their relationship with their child.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT recognizes that one's thoughts or cognitions can impact their behavior. CBT focuses on changing problematic thought patterns, learning coping skills and problem-solving skills, and facing fears in order to improve how one feels. CBT is an evidence based therapy that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including anxiety and depression.

Mindfulness Training: Mindfulness training utilizes a variety of techniques and practices to help an individual focus on the present moment and be fully aware of their experiences (both internal states and external surroundings). Practices may involve breathing techniques, guided imagery, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation. Mindfulness-based therapy has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including anxiety and depression.

Social Skills Training: Social skills training involves direct teaching of specific age-appropriate social skills and behaviors. This may include turn taking, play skills, feelings identification, perspective-taking, problem-solving skills, coping and self-regulation skills, and social communication skills.

Areas of Intervention

Four Rivers Therapy and Psychological Services may not be right for everyone:

Four Rivers Therapy and Psychological Services may not be the right fit if your child has been hospitalized for mental health disorders within the past six months, as we do not have on-call services or medical physicians on staff for emergencies. We do not treat the following types of cases and will happily provide you with referrals: eating disorders, pediatric bipolar disorder, dissociative or psychotic disorders, substance abuse/addiction concerns, personality disorders, youth engaged in behaviors that involve the legal system, and high conflict divorce. Please note that we do not make recommendations regarding custody.
